K-12 Special Education

Shiloh operates a special education academic school that is approved by the Texas Education Agency. The school operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00-3:30 and follows a typical school year calendar. The educational program focuses on basic academic skills, vocational skills, and living skills. The education program addresses school-based behavior problems that prevent a client from participating in regular school classes. An educational diagnostician or other qualified personnel is responsible for assessing each client's academic skills, learning competencies, living skills, and behavior.

Service Director

In an effort to transition clients to a less restrictive community-based school or program, case managers help families obtain services and give feedback to receiving schools and programs. Case managers help families find community support programs, entitlement programs, and outpatient treatment programs near their own homes.

Behavioral Treatment

A wide variety of social learning and cognitive-behavioral techniques are used, including positive reinforcement, natural consequences, modeling, and verbal prompting. At times, dangerous behaviors are managed by trained Shiloh staff, primarily the direct care staff, using Safe Crisis Management (SCM) techniques and other industry-standard interventions for behavior management. Shiloh does not use aversive behavior management techniques, seclusion, time out rooms, or mechanical restraints.

Shiloh uses techniques that are based on principles used in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for specifically identified behaviors. ABA is a widely used and highly researched based type of therapy that focuses on improving specific behaviors, such as social skills, communication, reading, and academics as well as adaptive learning skills, such as fine motor dexterity, hygiene, grooming, vocational and life skills in individuals with developmental delays. Our on staff Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) leads the implementation or these interventions.

Psychiatric Services

Shiloh's psychiatrists are highly experienced in child and adolescent practice. As specialists in this area, they are able to provide finer tuned and a variety of medication options than are not typically available in the community. Optimizing medications, can make an important difference in the child's life.  Once emotions and behavior are stabilized, they are more able to benefit from psychosocial treatments and therapy that may not have previously been effective.

Counseling Services

Counseling services are provided as indicated by the psychosocial assessment completed during the admission process and directed by the service plan. Clients receive individual and group counseling, depending on specific needs. Family counseling is considered critical and provided when families are able to participate. Our counseling staff includes several master's degree-level licensed professional counselors, and social workers.
